Genmaicha is a traditional Japanese green tea that is mixed with roasted brown rice. Genmaicha's origins are humble: the practice of adding brown rice to tea began in the Edo period as a way to stretch expensive supplies of green tea further.
To craft our Genmaicha Green tea, we selected a high-grade Genmaicha for the noticeable difference it makes in the final cup. We prefer a brewing method similar to that of a black tea. Hotter water and a shorter steep time brings out the full nutty flavor of the toasted rice.
To brew our Genmaicha Green tea, we recommend 2 oz of 210° water for each gram of tea. Brew for 1.5 minutes, then enjoy and reflect.
